Ivorian authorities have an active regulatory programme of managing and protecting the environment. Key legislation is contained in the Environmental Code (Act No. 96-766) and subsequent decree (Decree No. 96-894), which include requirements such as:

• An Environmental and Social Impact Assessment prior to each activity;
• A public consultation with the surrounding communities;
• Performance of Environmental Managment Plan Monitoring (EMPM).
